Only in the 17th century, when the telescope was invented, and people realized that the Earth orbits the Sun and they are not the center of the Universe, the astronomical observations of the zodiac constellations became more respected. Ancient people thought all sky objects spun around the Earth, so it seemed obvious that the cosmic forces focused on human beings. The zodiac was mainly an astrological concept until the heliocentric model appeared. In the 2nd century B.C., he wrote Tetrabiblos, which served as the basis for the western zodiac astrology. The translated names of the zodiac signs and constellations survived through the works of Greek astrologers and astronomers, one of whom was Claudius Ptolemy. Still, the twelve of these constellations were given the same names as the zodiac signs. They only roughly corresponded with the twelve segments of the zodiac. The first mentions of them belong to ancient Babylonia around 1000 B.C. The constellations along the path of the Sun, Moon, and planets on the sky had been observed even earlier. The segments denoted the 12 equal 30-day months and were given the names we now know as “the zodiac signs.” Babylonian astronomers divided the band of the sky where the Sun, Moon, and planets move into equal 12 segments, each occupying 30° of celestial longitude. ![]() The word zodiac derives from a Greek phrase meaning “animal circle,” but it’s initially the Babylonian concept, created in the 5th century B.C.

There is no evidence that magnesium produces systemic poisoning although persistent over-indulgence in taking magnesium supplements and medicines can lead to muscule weakness, lethargy and confusion.Įffects of exposure to magnesium powder: low toxicity & not considered to be hazardous to health. Humans take in between 250 and 350 mg/day of magnesium and need at least 200 mg, but the body deals very effectively with this element, taking it form food when it can, and recycling what we already have when it cannot. Dolomite and magnesite are mined to the extent of 10 million tonnes per year, in countries such as China, Turkey, North Korea, Slovakia, Austria, Russia and Greece. The United States has traditionally been the major world supplier of this metal, supplying 45% of world production even as recently as 1995. It’s the third most abundant structural metal in the earth’s crust, only exceeded by aluminum and iron. It’s also found in seawater, underground brines and salty layers. It’s very abundant in nature, and it’s found in important quantities in many rocky minerals, like dolomite, magnetite, olivine and serpentine. Magnesium is the eighth most abundant element and constitutes about 2% af the Earth's crust by weight, and it is the third most plentiful element dissolved in seawater. Other uses include: removal of sulphur form iron and steel, photoengraved plates in the printing industry reducing agent for the production of pure uranium and other metals from their salts flashlight photography, flares, and pyrotechnics. Magnesium components are widely used in industry and agriculture. It also has many useful chemical and metallurgic properties, which make it appropriate for many other non-structural applications. With a density of only two thirds of the aluminum’s, it has countless applications in cases where weight reducing is important, i.e. Magnesium compounds are used as refractory material in furnace linings for producing metals (iron and steel, nonferrous metals), glass, and cement. The main ingredients of the alloys are: aluminum, manganese, zircon, zinc, rare-earth metals and thorium. It was used for a long time for synthesizing special and complex organic components by the well-known Grignard reaction. Used as a catalyst, magnesium promotes organic reactions of condensation, reduction, addition and dehalogenization. Magnesium reacts only slightly or not at all with most of the alkalis and many organic substances, like hydrocarbons, aldehides, alcohols, phenols, amines, esters and most of the oils. It joins together with most non-metals and almost every acid. Magnesium is very chemically active, it takes the place of hydrogen in boiling water and a great number of metals can be produced by thermic reduction of its salts and oxidized forms with magnesium. Magnesium is known for a long time as the lighter structural metal in the industry, due to it’s low weight and to it’s capability of forming mechanically resistant alloys. If you’re a beginner or a more experienced user, you’ll want to consider the features and functionality of each type of tape. The more detailed the specifications are, the better. The best ones will allow you to measure your body measurements accurately and comfortably. There are several types of measuring tape available on the market. A good choice for a pocket-size measuring tape is the two-pack soft fashion pink and retractable black measuring tape set. The length of the tape depends on the brand. Some are retractable and have a large length, while others have a retractable feature. These are aesthetically pleasing and come with a removable measuring tape case. You may prefer a soft fashion pink measuring tape. Retractable black tape measures are good, but be careful about their loud noise. They are not as flexible as the other two, so they must be handled carefully. The lengths are one, two, ten, thirty, and fifty meters. Steel tapes are made of steel ribbon and vary in width from six to 16 mm. Linen tapes are lightweight and easy to handle, but they are not suitable for accurate surveying. There are two kinds of soft measuring tapes available: linen and steel. If the measurement is less than one inch, you can read off the tape measure and add the length from the two marks. The length that goes beyond two inch marks will need to be calculated by adding the length of one inch plus the space between the inch marks. If the length is more than one inch, you can use the one with markings on every other inch. The length you measure should be accurate. There are several types of soft measuring tapes, each one made for different purposes. You should always use a tape that has the corresponding markings. The nearest number to the end of the tape represents the number of units it measures, and the markings above this mark represent fractions of the unit. To make sure that the measurement is correct, you should always read the tape at the point where it meets the object being measured. Tapes can be inaccurate when temperature or pulling force is greater than specified. ![]() Measurement accuracy is a key factor in your job. You should also know how to read line values and math, so that you can double check your work. There are some basic tips that can help you read a soft measuring tape, so you don’t get the wrong measurements. The advantage of soft tapes is that they’re less likely to rust. However, they’re less durable than metal tapes, so be sure to choose a high-quality one before investing in a new tape measure. Soft tapes have less metal and are more flexible, so they’re more flexible. They stretch and tear over time, which can result in inaccurate measurements or major mistakes.
